Torch Ginger (Etlingera elatior):
The flower bud of this ginger is eaten raw as a salad or used as a food flavouring,
especially in "laksa" (rice noodles in a spicey fish soup). Known locally as
"bunga kantan" (in the Malay language), the buds were previously collected from the forest for
sale in the market, but the torch ginger is now cultivated.
