Family: Saturniidae

The Atlas Moth (Attacus atlas) is the largest moth in the world. It is rivalled in size by South America's Giant Agrippa (Thysania agrippina) which has the longest wingspan (23-30cm., or 9-12in.), but A. atlas wins the sweepstakes by having the largest wing area. Its caterpillars feed on a wide range of tree leaves (including rambutan), and the species ranges from India and Sri Lanka, throughout Southeast Asia to China.
