The Atlas Moth (Attacus atlas) is the largest moth in the world. It is rivalled
in size by South America's Giant Agrippa (Thysania agrippina) which has the
longest wingspan (23-30cm., or 9-12in.),
but A. atlas wins the sweepstakes by having the largest wing area. Its
caterpillars feed on a wide range of tree leaves (including rambutan), and the species
ranges from India and Sri Lanka, throughout Southeast Asia to China.
