The delicate Heather Rhododendron (R. ericoides) grows from about elevation 2,450m to 4,000m on Mount Kinabalu and about 100m from the peak. It takes root in cracks between rocks and boulders and its heather-like leaves are an adaptation to survive the harsh conditions of the higher elevations.
