NATURE UP CLOSE and PERSONAL ~ FOLDER 1

FOLDER 1 contains articles that I have written for the Malaysian Naturalist (previously known as the Malayan Naturalist), a magazine published by the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) of which I was a member for many years.
  1. Close Encounters with Stalk-eyed Flies ~ An account of my search for stalk-eyed flies following a chance first encounter during a nature outing.

  2. The Perlis Pansy and Other Pansies ~ An account of my encounter with a butterfly species in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, far away from its known normal range.

  3. The Amazing Ant-mimicking Spider ~ Description and photos of the Kerengga Ant-like Jumper, a jumping spider that mimics the ferocious weaver ant.

  4. The Silky Distinction ~ There's a thin line, or rather a fine strand of silk, that distinguishes the Kerengga Ant-like Jumper, an ant-mimicking jumping spider, from its model, the ferocious weaver ant.

  5. How To Photograph Butterflies ~ This article attempts to answer the "what, how, when, where and why" of photographing butterflies.

  6. Gunung Trusmadi ~ An account of my trek to the summit of Gunung Trusmadi, Malaysia's second highest mountain in Sabah, with some other members of the Malaysian Nature Society in March 1990.

  7. A Pitcher Bristling With Mystery ~ Description and photos of Nepenthes species found on Gunung Trusmadi, including one whose identity baffled me for a while.
